Everything vibrates by Emilio Del Giudice - physicist

During the last year at high school I was surprised by the affirmation of an "inherited" companion (he had some problem with drugs, but he was a genius, in his own ways) as he chose for the graduation exams physics and philosophy, drawing parallels and connections that, at that time, seemed to me quite odd. Therefore, it seemed to me that physics and philosophy have nothing to do with one another: rational, positivist, concrete the former; abstract, intangible, subjective and debatable the latter.

Listening to the physicist Emilio Del Giudice, I’d say that it’s clear that the two disciplines are not that far apart. On the contrary, they are mutually backing and supporting  one another. I cannot and I will not even try to summarize what Del Giudice says, but I just resume some images that struck me quite hard.

Quantum physics has its origins in the in the lack of ability of classical physics to explain certain phenomena: the model "atoms+interacting forces between atoms" is no longer sufficient. As Del Giudice says, it’s as if we wanted to study the motion of the boat without taking into account the existence of the sea: we know the size of each single boat, the motor powers, the size of the sails, the board plans, but if you do not know that there is also the sea, we will observe phenomena that we can not completely explain, as the oscillation due to waves or moving due to currents. For this reason the model we use to explain physical phenomena has a huge importance; the more accurate the model, the greater  the degree of precision that we can use to predict the evolution of a given phenomenon.

However the conclusion that struck me the most is this: while once it was said that nature has the “horror vacui”, an idea that does not include the vacuum, the new theories, supported by new discoveries, suggest that nature would rather have the “horror quetis” as saying that everything moves, vibrates, resonates (and this reminds me of the different discussions about the peril of links;  a link blocks movements, you are as something dead, that does not move).

And this resonance is mainly useful and effective , the greater  the number of elements  involved in a harmonic vibration; pushing the sense of interactions between humans, the equation of the perfect happiness can be achieved only through the involvement of all the people, Del Giudice says, laughing, but not too much.

As if any model that provides a separation, an election of one group over another, should not be able to maximize the utility or happiness even for that single group. The degree of happiness increases accordingly with the number of people involved.

In general the separation, the isolation of a phenomenon is always negative. We are guided by an analytical science that has lost the idea of a synthetic vision. Pay attention; even in medicine the extreme specialization makes you subject to analysis of different specialists who may not know anything about each other diagnoses (and no one interested in the whole picture: body, mind and soul).

If I may picture it, I would say that like a pimple on the skin is nothing else but the tip of an iceberg of a malaise, a disharmony maybe caused by food, maybe emotional, and the care that put its attention over the pimple is only partial, symptomatic and doomed to fail, so the hunting for a terrorist or a serial killer becomes fruitless and partial remedy if you do not try to analyze and understand the causes of the boundary, the background in which this violence has been born and is growing inside.

Even turning it to a positive level, Del Giudice says, "Why do you believe that in Florence during 14th century there were so many geniuses? Statistically speaking, they should be distributed also a bit  elsewhere, isn’t it? " But, understanding the mechanisms described above, it is comprehensible how the flourishing of a society or a community automatically leads to the development of many individual personalities as they are the outcome of that company or that communities. So, as Don Paolo says in a famous song, we are one ....

I was fascinated by this speech, and I recommend, if you have an hour or so to watch the video. I have already explained, in other notes, how nature contains, in its laws, moral principles, teachings, guidelines, but I had never found an explanation so fascinating.

Homework (from now on when it will end our fleeting passage on this earth): to act turning the smile in every contact we have with others, to spread the wave of Love and Harmony.
